Marine Stewardship on Salt spring island
Marine Stewardship group
The Marine Stewardship Group works to protect and restore marine ecosystems around Salt Spring Island and the Salish Sea through education, community science, and collaborative action. Our goal is to foster a deeper connection to local waters while supporting long-term stewardship and marine biodiversity.
All residents of Salt Spring Island are welcome to join in our Marine Stewardship activities and events. Contact Anne Parkinson to get involved.

Programs & Priorities
Community Science & Monitoring
Volunteers support marine health through forage fish egg surveys, herring spawn tracking, and water quality sampling—laying the groundwork for clam harvesting and salmon restoration.
Outreach & Education
We host events like Wonders of the Salish Sea, share marine stories through articles and our Fulford Bay WENA’NEC Facebook group, and collaborate with local media.
Celebration & Connection
Outdoor walks, webinars, and ocean-themed events build appreciation for the coast and inspire care for marine life. We work with local partners to share knowledge and help shape marine goals in broader community action plans.
Advocacy & Action
We encourage citizen engagement—through awareness campaigns, civic participation, and calls for marine protection in local policy.
