Rainbow Road Community Garden on Salt spring island

Rainbow Road Allotment Gardens

The Rainbow Road Park Allotment Garden is a volunteer-run community garden beside the Rainbow Road Aquatic Centre. With 39 organic garden plots, we provide space for growing local food while promoting climate-conscious gardening practices and local food security.

Membership is open to residents on Salt Spring Island on a first come/first serve basis and there is often a wait list - but be patient as openings do occur! Members are required to pay a small annual fee and share the cost of water.

Garden Features & Practices

Organic & Climate-Conscious Growing

Gardeners follow organic methods and focus on water conservation using catchment systems from nearby roofs.

Soil Health & Composting

We support healthy soil through on-site composting and are exploring regenerative methods like a Johnson-Su bioreactor for fungal-rich compost.

Pest & Water Management

Conservation techniques include targeted watering, mulching, soil moisture meters, and natural pest monitoring.

Pollinator & Biodiversity Support

The garden includes mason bee houses and pollinator-friendly plantings to encourage native species.

Shared Infrastructure & Stewardship

Members help maintain the site—working together on pathways, irrigation, fencing, and garden structures.
