Help Penelakut Island Recover from a Food Emergency

The recent “bomb cyclone” left Penelakut Island without power for days, spoiling the food 350 residents had stored for winter. Now, they face a critical food emergency.

How You Can Help:

Donate meat and food on Saturday, Dec. 7th, from 10 AM–3 PM in front of Thrifty’s or Country Grocer SSI on Salt Spring.

Can’t make it? You can also donate funds here.

Also, the Salt Spring Island Farmland Trust is supporting the Penelakut Tribe’s dream of a walk-in freezer with a backup generator for community food security. All donations go directly to the Penelakut Tribe and will receive a tax receipt.

Dry goods are especially helpful for easy storage but all types of food donations are welcome and appreciated.

Every donation makes a difference. Join us in answering this urgent call to action to support First Nations food security.
