Our vision for Salt Spring is a vibrant, resilient Transition Community, less dependent on imported energy sources, with a strong local economy and healthy ecosystems. We are contributing to this vision by connecting members with local projects that lower our carbon footprint, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and provide other environmental and social benefits.
TSSEC operates under the Cooperative Associations Act of BC. As a cooperative, TSSEC is owned by its members who elect the volunteer Board of Directors at the Annual General Meeting and provide guidance to the Board.
To apply for membership or a micro-loan, apply below.
The purpose of the Co-op is to support green projects and enterprises on Salt Spring that help to address climate change and reduce fossil fuel use, that make our community more resilient to economic and environmental challenges, and generally increase community well-being.
Since 2011, TSSEC has provided over $100,000 in micro-loans to more than a dozen local organizations and enterprises. To be eligible for support, a project must meet TSSEC green criteria for two or more of the following: energy, community and ecosystem health, localization, and fair business practices.
