We know meaningful change begins close to home, so here’s a glimpse of what your donations have made possible:
Growing a culture of sustainability
Our community events bring out thousands of islanders to help one another, share resources, and lighten our collective footprint.
- Three Repair Cafés helped bring over 300 items back to life.
- The Annual Clothing Swap kept over 2,900 lbs pounds of clothing out of the landfill and strengthened our circular economy.
- And this December, we expect hundreds of families to find pre-loved gifts at the Holiday Toy Swap.
Our Lighter Living series continues to inspire everyday actions that add up to meaningful change. Through stories, tips, and encouragement, we’re helping people feel empowered rather than overwhelmed — a powerful antidote to climate anxiety.
Our videos, articles, and social media posts now reach hundreds of thousands of viewers. This steady presence in local media keeps sustainability top of mind for residents and decision makers alike. (Find us on Facebook, Instagram, and now TikTok!)
Advocating for thoughtful policy change
This year, we convened nearly 100 organizations, elected representatives, and community leaders to develop a Common Ground Consensus — a call for “the right housing in the right places.” Their shared voice sparked island-wide participation in the Official Community Plan review, building momentum toward long-overdue improvements.
Promoting water conservation and responsible resource use
Our rebate programs are helping households take real climate action:
- 30 rainwater harvesting rebates
- 14 woodstove and heat-pump rebates
Together, that’s more than $33000 returned to residents to support resilient, climate-smart upgrades.
Restoring ecosystems for a safer, healthier future
Our Climate Adaptation Research Lab led major restoration efforts in the Hwmet’utsum (Mt. Maxwell) Creek watershed, including the planting of over 2,000 native plants to strengthen biodiversity and reduce fire risk.
And our annual chipping programs helped hundreds of islanders clear invasive species and reduce wildfire hazards around their homes.
Your continued generosity fuels this hopeful, hands-on work and strengthens Transition Salt Spring’s ability to lead the way toward a thriving, sustainable future for our island.
