SALT SPRING ISLAND'S CLIMATE ACTION PLAN

A ROADMAP FOR LOCAL CLIMATE SOLUTIONS

Transition Salt Spring’s Climate Action Plan 2.0 (CAP 2.0) is our community’s blueprint for tackling the climate crisis at a local level. It outlines practical steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, strengthen our island’s resilience, and protect what makes Salt Spring special—from healthy forests and clean air to secure food and water systems.

Whether you’re a homeowner, farmer, business owner, or community leader, CAP 2.0 offers clear, actionable guidance to help create a more sustainable and livable Salt Spring—today and for generations to come.

Tracking Our Progress: The Climate Report Card

Our Climate Report Card offers an honest, data-informed look at how we’re doing as an island community. Released in 2023, it evaluates the progress made since CAP 2.0 launched in 2021—and where we still have work to do. The Report Card highlights gaps in local readiness for climate impacts like drought, wildfire, and extreme weather, while recognizing key areas of progress and opportunity.

The message is clear: we need to move faster, together.

Why it matters

Salt Spring Island is already feeling the effects of a changing climate. CAP 2.0 helps us adapt by guiding decisions on land use, transportation, housing, water, and ecosystem health. It also helps community groups, local government, and individual citizens align their efforts to make real change—on the ground, where it counts. Get involved with Transition Salt Spring to help our community reach our critical climate goals.
