Working Groups at Transition Salt spring

The movement starts with you!

Transition Salt Spring empowers islanders to take meaningful climate action through volunteer-driven working groups. These groups are the heart of our organization—bringing together neighbours, scientists, educators, and creative thinkers to build a more sustainable Salt Spring Island.

Whether you're passionate about local food, native plants, marine ecosystems, or reducing waste, there's a place for you to make a difference. Looking for something more? Create your own Working Group with Transition Salt Spring. Review our Working Group Agreement and contact Darlene to get started.

What Are Working Groups?

Imagine creating a group that makes a real difference in our community. With Transition Salt Spring’s support, you can turn that vision into reality.

Working groups are volunteer-led teams supported by Transition Salt Spring. Each group focuses on a specific area of climate action or community resilience. They organize events, run educational programs, and implement hands-on projects aligned with the Salt Spring Island Climate Action Plan 2.0.

Our existing working groups are already driving change on Salt Spring Island. After fourteen years of incredible work, the Salt Spring Island EV Group recently retired, having successfully promoted electric vehicles and charging infrastructure on the island.

Do you have a great idea and the passion to make a difference? Whether you want to join an existing group or start your own, together, we can create a sustainable future for Salt Spring and the Southern Gulf Islands. Contact Darlene to learn more.

We provide each group with:

  • Start-up funding (up to $250)
  • Insurance coverage
  • Bookkeeping and administrative support
  • Promotion through our website, newsletters, and social media
  • Access to a network of over 2,700 local supporters
