APPLY TO VOTE BY MAIL:
Mail voting is available to all eligible resident and non-resident property electors. Applications for a mail ballot must be received no later than September 30.
Your completed ballot must reach one of the designated CRD addresses before 4pm on Friday, October 16. Mail ballots cannot be received at advance or general voting locations.
Who Can Vote
To be eligible to be a resident elector (you live in the community), you must be: 18 or older on voting day, a Canadian citizen, a BC resident for at least six months before registration or voting, a resident of the Salt Spring electoral area, and not be disqualified from voting. There is no 30-day local residency requirement for resident electors, so you can be a newcomer to SSI as long as you meet the other requirements. This applies to everyone (renters included) living on Salt Spring.
Non-resident property electors (you own property in the community but live elsewhere in BC) have additional requirements, including 30 days of registered property ownership and any required written co-owner consent. Register to vote on Voting Day:
If you are eligible and have not yet registered to vote, you can register to vote on Voting Day October 17 by bringing two pieces of identification, one of which must include your signature.
ELECTOR IDENTITY DOCUMENTS:
The following are valid identity documents for proving elector identity:
- BC driver’s licence
- BC ID card issued by the Motor Vehicle Branch
- BC Services Card
- Request for Continued Assistance form SDES8
- Social Insurance Card (Canada)
- Citizenship Card (Canada)
- Citizenship or membership cards issued by a BC First Nation governing body
- Métis Nation BC citizenship card/BC Métis Federation membership card
- Real property tax notice
- Credit card or debit card issued by a savings institution
- Utility bill

- two Islands Trust trustees
- three SD64 School Board trustees.
- four Local Community Commission commissioners
